Caring for the less privileged often requires stepping out of the comfort of our own lives. It may mean giving more than we think we can spare—whether that’s time, resources, or a part of our heart.
Our History
The Ogogo Foundation was established in 2023 with a mission to support and provide quality education to underserved communities in Obanliku Local Government Area (LGA) and Cross River State, Nigeria. The foundation was established as a result of our deep concern for the educational disparities in our rural community, where many children face significant barriers to accessing formal education due to poverty, limited infrastructure, and a lack of resources.
Following its launching, the Ogogo Foundation has made a significant impact by introducing our first scholarship program, awarding scholarships and educational materials to children in Primary and Secondary Schools who have shown academic potential through their performance but lacked the financial means to effectively pursue their education. The success of this initiative has marked a pivotal moment for our organization.
The foundation’s early activities focused on identifying children from low-income families and ensuring they receive the support necessary to thrive academically. In addition to scholarships, the Ogogo Foundation is working to improve the overall quality of education in the region by supporting teacher training programs, providing educational materials, and partnering with schools to create a conducive learning environment.
Background
Neighboring Despite the increase in school participation worldwide, certain groups continue to be excluded from education. Schooling opportunities depend a great deal not just on physical access to the schools but also on schools being of ‘high’ quality and promoting ‘active’ or ‘meaningful’ learning.Obanliku LGA is located in the northern part of Cross River State, Nigeria, sharing borders with Cameroonian communities.
Despite its rich natural and cultural resources, the community still faces development challenges. The area is made up of rugged mountain terrains and rural communities struggling with inadequate access to basic social services, including education, healthcare, and clean water. The majority of the people rely on subsistence farming for survival, with limited economic opportunities beyond agriculture. A large portion of the population is under 30 years old, and many live below the poverty line, with unemployment and underemployment rates particularly high among the youth. This persistent poverty has compounded social issues in the area, including limited access to quality education, which hampers long-term development.
